Liquid biopsies interrogate ctDNA, CTCs, exosomes, and other molecular content to yield real-time information regarding tumor genetics, heterogeneity, and drug response. In contrast to conventional tissue biopsies, liquid biopsies are less risky, reproducible, and can detect rapidly changing tumor biology, allowing for early detection, monitoring of low levels of residual disease, and detection of therapy resistance.
This session discusses technological developments, such as next-generation sequencing, digital PCR, and bioinformatics platforms that are more sensitive and accurate. Liquid biopsy also enables personalized medicine by informing targeted therapies, selection of immunotherapy, and adaptive treatment. Clinical applications include all solid tumors and hematologic cancers, providing a universal method for disease management.
